Author to Talk About Local Holocaust Survivor
GARDINER--Gardiner Adult Education will host a talk by David Swanson, author of "Emil Landau: Surviving the Third Reich" on Wednesday, October 16. The event will be held at Gardiner High School from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Mr. Swanson is a retired business executive, who describes himself as "a recorder who has tried to summarize the words and thoughts of Damariscotta's only survivor of the Nazi Holocaust." He volunteered to write Landau's story, and spent much of two years interviewing Landau.
The 94-page book, which includes photos of Landau's family and the camps where he was held, will be available for $18.

Debra Arter, who has lived in Maine for twenty years, finds that layering colors and using a variety of artistic processes suits her temperament and vision. Arter often select diverse materials for her artwork with regard to their readability, stored history, and hidden messages and seeks to invoke ideas by absence as much as presence.
Debra regularly teaches painting, collage, and drawing to adults and children in the Midcoast at a variety of Adult Education venues. She is also a founding member of the Midcoast Printmakers, a collaborative studio for various printmaking techniques. She earned an MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Art and is a participating member is several professional national art organizations. She regularly exhibits her work in Maine and beyond.
