Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

Well Mother Nature has certainly made getting back into routines after the holiday break quite challenging! Looking at the extended forecast, we may get to enjoy at least two full weeks of school. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!!
An exciting decision was made this week! After participating in an overview presentation, the teaching staff at LER decided that we would pilot a reading software program called Lexia. This reading program is multi-sensory in design and delivery. It automatically individualizes instructional needs of each child. So, very soon, we will have the program downloaded for our use for 60 days. I am sure your child will enjoy the program and see great results!
This Sunday our GEPTA will be hosting a family fitness and nutrition fun day. I hope many of you will be able to attend. This family event may help those of us suffering from “Cabin Fever” (at least for a couple of hours)! I am sure it will be fun and informative as well.
This month’s Star Student skill is Teamwork. Students at LER are concentrating on how to work well with others in a team to complete projects or play games in their classrooms. We are emphasizing to them the importance of listening to each other’s ideas, compromising…being willing to do it someone else’s way, cheering for each other, and encouraging teammates to do their best when difficulties arise. We really enjoy recognizing students every week! They are so proud of themselves! I also love hearing students tell me how hard they are trying to show the character skills that we are working on. The positive messages and recognition of the students do make a difference in the climate of our school. Be sure to check out our website to see our star students!
Be safe and stay warm while enjoying, okay surviving, this winter season! If you ever have a question, concern, suggestion, or want to chat, please call or stop in!

Yours in the service of children,

Karen Moody
Principal
