3:30 Rick Fortier from Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital Presented the program 5-2-1-0
5-1-2-0 is not intended to be part of the curriculum but rather a common vocabulary we can all use to promote the healthy food, less screen time, physical activity and less sugary drinks.
After the presentation the group definitely decided that we are interested in the program. Some brainstorming ideas included:
1. Have HS drama students introduce 5-2-1-0 in assemblies in grades K-5. Physical education teachers may have a role to review/reinforce as well.
2. Classroom teachers will be give additional materials to post in their classroom.
3. Cafeterias will have 5-2-1-0 posters as well.
• The major focus/goal of year one would be to send the message of 5-2-1-0 to all students. Individual classroom teachers may also decide to expand the 5-2-1-0 in their classrooms.
The group also discussed the academic/program review. We decided to devote a majority of our next meeting on 10/20 to that discussion. That way we could have grades 6-12 represented as well. Anthony indicated that our presentation to CCC will occur sometime in March.
Anthony passed out the red ribbons for red ribbon week along with sample worksheets students in grades K-5 could use. Please call Anthony with any questions.
The group indicated that we really need to meet very soon to go over 5-2-1-0 and the academic program review. We scheduled a meeting October 30th at 3:30 at central office.

Anthony shared that he invited parents from the Parent Health Advisory Committee to help determine the best way to get the 5-2-1-0 message to homes.
1. 5-2-1-0: Anthony reviewed the 5-2-1-0 packet with the committee.
a. The committee recommended that Stori and Anthony work together to see if the MS drama or Health Club might be able to help with a play to be given to all elementary students regarding 5-2-1-0. This would kick-off the 5-2-1-0 for classrooms and schools. The MS health club will get the message to the MS. We will discuss the HS plan when we have Doug Driscoll present.
b. The committee agreed that a letter going out to the K-5 schools encouraging healthy snacks should follow the plays/demonstrations be the HS/MS drama club. Anthony asked for feedback regarding the snack letter and the list of snack ideas. Anthony will fix the 5-2-1-0 letter to make it fit for our needs and have it ready for our next meeting.
c. Anthony and Meggan will work together to send out separate mailings for a healthy snack theme for each month. Ex.” December could be nuts and trail mix month as during the holidays there are a lot of nuts around. All mailings will go out with the elementary principal notes.
d. Anthony shared some resources for encouraging healthy snacks in classrooms. These of course are optional for classroom teaches.
e. Anthony will talk with Millie to see if we can put 5-2-1-0 on the menus.
2. Health Education Curriculum Program Review:
a. Anthony shared the program review document that ELA completed last year. He asked for input to how we wanted to move forward. The group recommended that Anthony send the Health Education survey to curriculum committee members. At next weeks staff meetings they can ask for the teachers to complete the 60-second survey. That survey will be used to begin writing the program review as a result of input from all teachers.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday November 20th at the Central Office Board Room.

1. Standards Based Grading:

6-8 PE Paula said her and Drew have been doing standards since the 3rd Quarter. Paula has gotten few calls from parents. Things are generally going well. Have been working with Lisa to iron out some glitches.
9-12 Health and PE – no standards based grading. Significant glitch in the system is preventing the HS from moving forward.
K-5 PE – No Report
2. Fitness Scores:
K-5 will be meeting with Paula on 5/21 early release to use the Fitnessgram on the computer. Thanks Paula for helping.
6-8 Fitness Scores are nearly done – now that the HRMs are in the pacer can be completed.
9-12 All 1st Semester scores are handed into Anthony. Second semester post-test scores will be given to Anthony soon. We had a discussion about the need to send Anthony an electronic list of students and how they performed on each fitness test. Anthony will be getting the Pearson training next week and it would be exciting to utilize these numbers.
Laurie will contact Polar to see if we can export electronically.
3. Sun Safety
We agreed to order the sun safety bracelets but have teachers put them together with the kids. The bands will be longer. Anthony will also order posters for everyone. We will also try to order enough for MS and the sophomores that Doug has. Doug will look for some posters the next few days.

Anthony also shared with the group that he met with Gay Grant regarding the PEP grant and shared the plan to get us to submit an application by March 1st.
Anthony asked that we all send our list of assessments with the correct abbreviation to Howie. Howie wants to be able to run searches but not all teachers are using the same abbreviations for their assessments on Powergrade. Anthony asked that he be ccd when you send the spreadsheet to Howie.
Program Review and 5-Year Plan
Anthony briefly explained the process that the academic review team might take us. The group decided that the academic review would help us submit a better proposal for the PEP grant. So it will benefit both parts. The group identified the following gaps that should be included in the review report:
Increase professional development opportunities for physical education staff:
Tri-Fit Training for grades 3-12
Integrating technology in PE/Wellness k-12
Best practices in instruction and assessment of PE programs(Illinois school highlighted in SPARK) we should at least have a conference call

Fitness testing for grades 3-5 difficulties in completing testing and recording it.
Current assessment practices in PE/Health to ensure validity and reliability.
Improve Instruction and Assessment
Site license for Tri-Fit
Implement valid and reliable assessments
