One of life's more cruel lessons is that the best Team doesn't always win. Unfortunately that was something the Gardiner Girl's Field Hockey Team learned the hard way on Saturday as they traveled to Skowhegan to face the Indians in the Eastern Maine Class A Semi-Finals. The Tigers couldn't quite pull it out, falling by a score of 2-1.
The Tigers seemed a bit off their game in the first half, but were still in it at 2-1. The Girls put on an incredible display of guts and determination and outplayed the Indians the entire second half, but just couldn't get the ball to go in the cage.
It was an effort that left every fan feeling proud, not just because of the effort, but also because we all know you won't find a better bunch of kids on a field anywhere in the State of Maine.

Tigers 1 Rams 0
The Tigers Field Hockey Team dominated field position in the first half, but failed to score, resulting in a scoreless tie at halftime.
Bangor seemed to move the ball better in the second half, but it was the Tigers who converted with about 10 minutes left in the game, and that was all they needed to come away with a quarterfinal win against a tough Bangor Team. KJ Article

The Gardiner Girls got their first taste of defeat this year, dropping a 3-2 decision to Messalonskee. It was 3-0 until the Tigers converted on a couple of late Penalty Corners, and unfortunately it was too little too late. But they say you learn more from failure than you do from success, and no doubt this Team will do just that...KJ Article

Heading into a tough week that features three away games against good teams (including a game on Saturday at Skowhegan), the Lady Tigers got a wake up call against Bangor and survived a tough one against the Visitors, winning it 2-1.
After a scoreless first half, a penalty stroke soon into the second half gave Gardiner a 1-0 lead. Bangor scored to tie it up 1-1, but the Tigers answered back quickly with a goal and that was the end of the scoring.
There were many high hits into the circle, hard drives across the circle, and in the end it was good defense by Bangor that slowed the Tigers. The Tigers dominated shots on goal (14-1) and penalty corners (11-0).
