Meeting Minutes

MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE: Linda Ciampa, Stephanie Rackliff, Melissa Story, Jen Havey, Kim Bell, Debbie Marceau, Tammy Allard, Greg Helm, Amber Dostie, Amy Rodriguez, Todd Sanders

I. HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTATION: Making Social Studies Relevant for Students
A. Powerpoint Presentation
B. Handouts
C. Committee Vote: Should the proposal be sent to the Long Range Planning Committee (9-0 Approval)

II. COMMITTEE GOALS:
A. Elementary = Alignment of curriculum with “new” standards
B. Middle = Geography: Alignment with high school
C. Secondary = Four year Social Studies requirement (Agenda Item I)

III. CURRICULUM MAPPING:
A. Is there funding available?
B. Middle level will be working on this on workshop day
i. Curriculum and common assessment links to Maine Learning Results

IV. NEXT ACTION: To be determined based on decision of Long Range Planning Committee

V. NEXT MEETING: January 12 @ GRMS (3:30pm)

Social Studies Meeting
March 10, 2008

3:30-4:15

Summer School - Discussion about the Summer School Proposal. Discussion about students motivation. Group was supportive of Literacy and Ambitions course this summer.

Native American Unit - Discussion about what we are really supposed to do in this area. Grade 2 willing to do Native American Unit. Howie will work with them to find materials, etc.

Farm Unit - Approved for use at Kindergarten level.

Assessments on the Website - Need to get these updated. Please review and send feedback to Howie.

GAHS new books
4th grade new books
5th grade new books two years ago
6-8 looked at new books, but decided to use the books they have.
