LER Newsletter for October, 2012

Dear Families,

Happy Fall!!!

We have now completed our NWEA testing for all students in grades 1 and 2. Staff and I are reviewing the scores to help us plan for the instructional needs of those students. Teachers will be sharing your child’s scores with you during Parent-Teacher conferences.

Parent-Teacher conferences will be scheduled in mid-October this year. Our common night is October 25th. Your child’s teacher will be contacting you soon to schedule an appointment to discuss your child’s progress. Parents of first and second grade students, your child’s teacher will also be explaining and giving you a copy of your child’s fall NWEA scores. Title 1 staff will also be available to meet with parents of students they service. Conferences are a great way to connect with your child’s teacher and to be informed about the learning happening in your child’s classroom. I encourage you to continue to stay in regular contact with your child’s teacher throughout the school year.

Next week we will celebrate Fire Safety week. On Tuesday and Friday, our students will enjoy a visit from Gardiner Firefighter, Patrick Saucier, who will demonstrate his uniform and equipment and share safety tips with all our students. Later in the month, October 30th, we will have an assembly presented to us by the Bikers Against Bullying group. All children will receive a free t-shirt at this assembly.

Finally, Octoberfest will be held October 20th at the park from 11:00-3:00. This event is sponsored by our GEPTA. They will be looking for lots of volunteers to help set up, bake, run events, and clean up. More information will be coming home soon about this family fun event!

This weekend is a 4-day weekend for your children as Friday is a Workshop Day and Monday is Columbus Day. I hope you are able to get outside to enjoy our fall season this weekend as the leaves have peaked and many orchards are open for apple picking!

If you ever have a question or concern or just want to visit, please do not hesitate to call me or stop by my office.

Yours in the service of children,
Karen Moody
