Grade 12 Senior Information Page:
Can you believe you’re almost there???? This will be a very busy year for you and the guidance department is here to help. The information listed below within the calendar is to guide you in your post-secondary plans, whether they be college, military, or the workforce. A senior interview will be scheduled to meet with your guidance counselor to discuss your future plans.
Senior Calendar
August
- Review your career plans and decide which type of school is right for you.
- Visit as many college campuses as you can.
- Narrow your college list to five or less.
- Find admission information on the web or at the counseling office.
- Review www.collegeboard.com
- Sign up for Educaid’s free newsletter at www.educaid.com.
September
- Meet with College and Military Reps visiting the counseling office (see schedule under Military and College Recruitment tab).
- Make a list of all test and admission fees along with deadlines.
- Decide who you will ask to write your letters of recommendations for college and scholarship.
- Register for October SAT’s if you need to. High School CEEB Code is 200395.
- Check to assure you are signed up for all of your required courses to graduate. Review your transcript with your counselor.
- Begin the application process.
- Visit the college fair again.
October
- Take the SAT or ACT if needed.
- Continue to work on your admissions application.
- Visit your top choice schools, interview some students, faculty, coaches, and/or staff while you are there.
- Attend parent/student college night - information will be posted on Daily Bulletin
- Find out if you need a CSS profile and FAFSA financial aid applications for your choice schools.
- Register if you need to take SAT II’s.
- Ask teachers for recommendations.
November
- Take SAT/ACT if necessary.
- Go on-line to look at the FAFSA to see what information you will need to complete this form in January.
- Review your deadlines to assure you do not miss anything.
- Be certain to visit with your high school counselor.
- Check with your counselor to see if a FAFSA workshop is available.
- Attend financial aid night at the high school - information will be given to students and posted on Daily Bulletin
December
- Parents are reminded to save their year end payroll stub to show earnings for financial aid and scholarship.
January
- Submit FAFSA and or CSS Profile for financial aid.
- Copy and keep any applications and forms along with the FAFSA/Profile.
- Check in the counseling office to assure all of your materials have been sent out to your colleges.
- Don’t slack off! Remember that all colleges get final grade reports.
February
- Check to see if your mid-year reports have been sent to your colleges.
- Be certain to send FAFSA/CSS Profile if you have not done so as yet as the money does run out.
- Be certain to rank your final list of colleges so that you can accurately compare your financial aid report from each school.
- Do you have all of your applications in?
March
- Look for your SAR Student Aid Report from Financial Aid.
- Send updated tax information when requested to Financial Aid and colleges.
- If you have not received your financial aid report four weeks after sending it contact Federal Student Aid at (319) 337-5665.
- Register for AP Exams.
- Registration Deadline for May SAT’s.
April
- College acceptance letters and financial aid packages should be arriving in the mail.
- Visit your chosen college one more time if possible.
- Make your final decisions and send deposits by the deadlines.
- Notify other schools that you will not be attending.
- Watch for important deadlines at your chosen college.
May
- AP Exams will take place.
- If you need, and are eligible for, a student or parent loan: Educaid at 1-800-578-1233.
- Finalize summer school or summer job plans.
- Fill out dormitory request forms.
- Send original signed Student Aid Report to your chosen college registrar.
- Check on status of your Stafford Loans.
- Take time to personally thank faculty members who have helped you along the way.
June
- Graduation! Good luck to all whether it be at work and or career choice, with the military, or at a college or university.
