Bus Safety
Safety Tips
•The loading and unloading area is called the DANGER ZONE.
•It is against the law to pass a stopped school bus when the red lights are flashing. This includes schoolyards and parking lots.
•Remind children to STOP, LOOK, WAIT, CROSS.
•Students need to sit safe and listen to the driver.
•School buses make frequent stops, be aware of kids everywhere and be patient.
•Students need to be at the bus stop 5 minutes prior to bus arrival.
•Remind children to look to the right before they step off the bus.
•When crossing the street in front of the bus, walk far enough in front (10 feet) so that you can see the driver.
•Warn children that, if they drop something near the bus, they should never ever pick it up, tell the driver and follow the driver's directions.
•Remember that yellow flashing lights mean WARNING that the bus is going to stop and RED means you need to stop.
