River View News
News From the Principal:
Whether in world or local news it seems that positive conflict resolution seems to be sorely lacking.
Students at RVCS are learning how to practice this important skill. Here are a few of their strategies:
*Don’t take things personally.
*Go right to the source and ask questions. (Avoid being part of a third party conversation.)
*Actively listen to the other person’s point of view.
*When someone treats you in an unkind way, don’t respond in kind. (Tell an adult who has the authority to help you plan a way to respond.)
*Be honest about how you feel. Remember, anger, disappointment, frustration, and fear is natural feelings. How we express them is the important thing.
*Keep our words appropriate.
*Be willing to take responsibility for our own actions.
*Look for ways to demonstrate kindness.
(Kind acts are contagious!)
We are making a better world, one student at a time!

Playground Committee: We met on 3/18 - Eric from Miracle gave a presentation on some of the systems available and we discussed ways of fund raising. Unfortunately, we didn't have a big turn out. We need families to get involved so we can make sure RVCS has an appropriate playground for our children! We will have some drawings available to look at the April 1st meeting. We will announce the next playground meeting soon!
Save Your Shaw's Receipts!
Do you or friends and family shop at Shaw's? Help raise funds for a new playground at River View School by bringing in Shaw's receipts. Through the Shaw's Receipt Rewards Program, Shaw's will donate 1% of the amount of the receipts. There's no limit to how many receipts you can bring in, just make sure the receipt is the original, not a copy.
Parent/Teacher conferences are coming up and the GEPTA provides dinner for the teachers on April 8 (River View) and April 16 (LER). If you would like to help out with this you can call Helen at 582-6492 or email geptanews@gmail.com. --
