BUSING OF STUDENTS

The Administration at G.R.M.S. is extremely concerned with the safety and well being of students not only within the walls of the middle school but as they depart the property at the conclusion of the school day.
In recent days we have received increased reports from concerned citizens about the number of students and the manner in which they are walking along very busy Route 126. In addition, many drivers do not adhere to the 15 mph school speed zone through this stretch, which, in addition, is still undergoing roadwork. These factors plus the lack of a sidewalk make this a very dangerous combination from which only unfortunate incidents or accidents can occur.
The result of these concerns and communications with Central Office Administration and the Director of Transportation is that all students leaving school grounds at afternoon dismissal will be required to use M.S.A.D. 11 transportation. These buses already make the necessary runs so this will not add additional routes to their schedule.
Those students who ride bikes to and from school will be able to continue to do so and those who remain after school hours for any variety of reasons will be allowed to walk or take the late bus, on the days it is available, at the conclusion of their activities.
This is a measure we take in the best interest of all our students as we attempt to eliminate the possibility of any unfortunate incidents or accidents. If you have any questions please contact the school. We thank you for your understanding and assistance with this student safety issue.
