Principal’s Notes

Dear Families,

September has come to an end! We have had a great start to our school year! Students are adjusting well to school routines, making new friends, and working hard to do their best learning. I am so very proud of the staff and students here at LER!

Now looking ahead to October, I would like to bring your attention to upcoming events. First, this Saturday we will be celebrating Octoberfest on the Gardiner Common from 11:00-3:00. This event is a wonderful community celebration of the fall season! There will be bounce houses, games, relay races, pumpkin painting, cakewalks, a petting zoo, face painting, and much more! I encourage you to bring your family and enjoy this event that is organized by our awesome PTA friends!

We have fire fighters visiting our school on October 9th to talk about fire safety with our students. We have no school for students October 10th (Teacher Workshop Day) and October 13th (Columbus Day Holiday). Picture Day is on October 14th. Our next school assembly is October 30th from 2:15-2:45. Families are welcome to join us! Lastly, on October 31st students at LER will participate in our fall mini course day from 1:30-2:30. Students will sign up to participate in fall crafts and games with staff around the building. We did mini courses last spring, and the event was such a hit that we decided to do one this fall as well! If you would like to volunteer to help with an activity, please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible as we are presently busy planning activities.

I wish your family a very merry fall season! I hope you can get out often to enjoy the beautiful Maine foliage. Apple orchards and local farms are also open now for apples and pumpkins.

If you ever have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to call your child’s teacher or me. My door is always open!

Yours in the service of children, Karen Moody

Box Tops for Education - Continue clipping those Box Tops symbols! Last year, LER families collected $1,195.50. WOW! Once again we will have monthly contests by grade level. Watch for those October contest sheets to come home. Tell your family, friends, and neighbors to save those 10-cent symbols. They really do add up!!

Campbell's Labels for Education - Remember to continue saving those UPC codes from participating Campbell's products. Campbell's no longer accepts the front label, so please cut the UPC code and attach it to the 1-point and 5-point collection sheets sent home with your child.

GAHS Student Council Coin Drive
As part of Spirit Week, the Gardiner Area High School Student Council is holding a coin drive to benefit families in our area who need help heating their homes this winter. Your student can contribute through Thursday, October 9th by bringing in coins to help fill the collection jar in the LER office.

Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge
The Knights of Columbus Soccer challenge will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Gardiner on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00 pm. All boys and girls ages 8 -14 are invited to participate. For more information, contact Pat Berends at 446-4011. (This is not an MSAD#11 sponsored event.)

School Picture Day
Mark your calendars! Lifetouch will be here to take school pictures on Tuesday, October 14th. Order envelopes came home with your student earlier this week.

Star Students
Every week, we recognize a Star Student from each classroom. Teachers choose a student who has demonstrated the character skill of the month. Each Star Student receives a certificate, a special pencil, and has his or her picture taken! The character skill for the month of September was responsibility. October’s character skill is respect. Congratulations to our Star Students for September!
