Wellness Works in MSAD 11

Wellness Works is an innovative wellness project launched in November of 2008 in four school districts in Maine. As one of the school districts participating in the project, MSAD 11 staff has the opportunity to meet one-on-one with health coaches from Occupational Medical Consulting of Leeds,ME.

"This school wellness project will be a valuable demonstration of an approach to improve health and lower health risk factors that makes the connection between lifestyle choices and overall health,"said Dan Corcoran, President of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Anthem and MEA Benefits Trust are the two funders of this project. By having health coaches work one-on-one with staff, we hope to demonstrate effective ways to reduce risk factors that contribute to poor health later in life and give our school staff the knowledge and skills to life healthy lives, "said Christina Burk President, MEA Benefits Trust.

MSAD 11 has nearly 180 staff currently enrolled in the program. The program is open to all teachers and others district staff who have elected to take the health insurance benefit offered by the district.
