VFW ESSAY CONTEST
On Friday, February 12, members of VFW posts from Gardiner, Augusta, Waterville, and Winthrop visited Gardiner Regional Middle School to recognize students for their winning essays in the annual VFW essay contest.
This year's topic was "When is the Right Time to Honor our Military Heroes?" Students prepared for writing their essays by reading, doing research online, speaking with adults significant to them, and visiting the Cole Land Transportation Museum , where they interviewed veterans.
VFW Post 9 and Auxiliary members served all participating students, teachers, and the award winners' families ice cream sundaes.

Mr. Richard O'Ben, of Post 9, presented bouquets to Debra Butterfield and Donna Whalen, seventh grade ELA teachers.
