Maine Becomes a State

Students will study post-Revolutionary War Maine up to 1820. They will compose a Structured Response describing the events leading up to statehood. This will include rational both for and against statehood. They will also examine the power struggle between slave and non-slave states to include a discussion of the "Missouri Compromise".

So You Think You Know Maine Government

Students will need to describe each of the 3 branches of government in Maine, the members, and duties of each branch. Students will also need to understand the system of "checks and balances" in Maine's government. Finally, students will have to be familiar with Maine's "Bill of Rights" and how these rights are important to the citizens of Maine.
