PTO CRAFT SHOW Can't make the PTO Meetings but still want to help support your child's school? Consider joining our Craft Show Committee! We will meet almost entirely here on facebook (until the actual craft show on November 2) to help plan and staff our 2019 Craft Show. This event has the potential to be A HUGE fundraiser for our school. One of my favorite parts about the the event is that we are reaching beyond our school families to raise the funds. But we need more help! Help in planning, staffing the event (one day only!), advertising, and most importantly, getting people to come shop! We have created a private group for you to join and help make this event big enough to be our only fundraiser of the year! Please consider lending your talents and JOIN!

THE G.R.M.S. GIFT OF GIVING As a result of a challenge issued to students and staff to “Stuff the Bus” with food items for the local Chrysalis Place Food Pantry by two Gardiner Regional Middle School Staff members, over 3,000 items were loaded into a school bus and staff members pick-up truck and delivered to the Gardiner area food pantry on December 21st. Donations of dry and canned items were collected over a period of three weeks. Included was a friendly competition among homerooms for a first place pizza party and a “runner up” cookie party sponsored by the school’s PTO. One of the two staff members who issued the challenge and desire to remain anonymous stated “We wanted ‘to stuff the bus”’ in order to provide local families and students with a good meal and continue to make a difference in our community.” This life-long learning experience provided students with the opportunity to support those less fortunate and participate in a little healthy competition along the way. One of M.S.A.D. #11 and Gardiner Regional Middle School’s goals for the year is to create strong and caring connections with the communities of the district. At this time of giving this small gesture certainly helped to make that goal a little closer to reality as the first half of the school year comes to a close. The students and staff at G.R.M.S. would like to extend this challenge to anyone reading this article. For more information about what you could do to support Chrysalis Place Food Pantry they can be reached at 582-5507.

A MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE "Just a reminder that it is that time of year when viruses are spreading throughout our schools. Oftentimes, these viruses are most contagious before symptoms occur so please remind your child to wash his/her hands frequently. Also, please remember, if your child is sick keep him/her home. Our guidelines for MSAD #11, which are provided by our Medical Director, Abigail Hoke MD, are: 1. Temp > 100F 2. Vomiting 8 hours prior to school 3. Diarrhea 8 hours prior to school If any of these criteria are met, the student must stay home until symptom-free for 24 hours. Thank you for your help in keeping our school a healthy place to learn."

From our Middle and High School Athletic Director - Mr. Stubbert: I am very pleased to announce that the proposal I made to the school board to allow 6th graders to participate on our middle school teams and create a Varsity and Junior Varsity team passed unanimously. I think this is very exciting as Gardiner athletics move forward. The JV and Varsity format will begin this fall. Unfortunately we will not be adding any teams this year because they were not built into the budget so if a sport only has one team, it will only have one team and that will be called the varsity team. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be allowed to try out for that team and it will be the coaches decision on who he/she decides to keep.
