GAHS Fall 2020 parent Teacher Conferences (Please view attached letter for more details.) Our fall Parent Teacher Conferences will be on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 from 12pm to 3pm and Thursday, October 29, 2020 from 4pm to 7pm. All conferences will be held virtually using Google. Each conference will be ten minutes. If you find that you need more time to discuss your child with any of their teachers, additional time can be arranged with individual teachers to do so. This past week rising sophomore Shawn Jiminez took part in the virtual National Junior Classical League Convention with over 1,000 students from across the US. He joined an Open Certamen team (Latin quiz game) and came in third overall. He only had one opportunity participate in Certamen competition this year and still was able to compete on the National level. Congratulations, Shawn! You made Gardiner JCL proud!

With the Covid-19 restrictions you will have 2 options to complete your student's registration. A) We can set up a face to face meeting with your student's counselor. Face Masks are required for you and your student. Only the student and one Legal Guardian or Parent (listed on birth certificate) will be allowed to attend the meeting. Please have a copy of the student's birth certificate or Court documents showing legal custody at the meeting. Damien Thornton is a junior from Randolph enrolled in the Auto Collision program through Gardiner Area High School. When he first started attending CATC, he tried a couple of other programs, but found he was most interested in the Auto Collision program. He has enjoyed the hands-on nature of the program, and learning to use the tools of the trade. He is currently working on edge and surface prime. His instructor, Mr. Romeo Roy, said, "Damien shows great potential of being a valuable body man. He is a quick learner and pays attention to detail." When he is not in school, Damien can be found working at Subway. Damien plans to graduate early and pursue a career in auto collision.

For immediate release: Congratulations Brad! Phillis for being selected as one of two students of the month at Capital Area Technical Center. Bradley Phillis is a senior from Gardiner Area High School enrolled in the Automotive Technology program. He has always been around his family's automotive business. But, he feels this program has greatly furthered his knowledge about cars. This year, Brad obtained his ASE certification in Brakes. His instructor, Mr. Joe Rabideau states, "Brad is an excellent student and conducts himself with great professionalism. I predict he will be sought after in the automotive field." When he is not in class, Bradley plays lacrosse and works at the Gardiner Boys & Girls Club. Updated Message From Principal Kempton: This morning a message was sent to parents informing everyone about a posting of a picture on social media that was threatening in nature. School administration is working collaboratively with law enforcement to investigate the situation. At this time, we believe the incident is under control. School administrators are meeting with those involved to determine what course of action needs to be taken by the school district. The student involved will be held out of school until a decision is made by school administration. Keeping your children safe is our top priority. Congratulations to our high school Robotics team for their performance at the Southeast Massachusetts competition! Team coach Paul Seed provided the following summary: We had a great weekend (9th-11th) at the SE Mass District event in Bridgewater, Mass!! Finished the qualification tournament in 4th place. Highest ranking we've ever had after qualifications. Won in the quarterfinals to make it to the semifinals. Lost in the semis to the eventual winners of the event. The team compete like champs and earned every bit of their success. We had so much fun teaming up for a match with the Riot Crew(58) and the Terror Bytes(6337) to show Mass how we roll up here in the great white north!! We won the Gracious Professionalism award!!! This is a wonderful award for the team to have received. Here is the description FIRST uses to describe the award. "Celebrates outstanding demonstration of FIRST Core Values such as continuous Gracious Professionalism and working together both on and off the playing field. Definition of Gracious Professionalism Gracious Professionalism is part of the ethos of FIRST. It’s a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community. with Gracious Professionalism, fierce competition and mutual gain are not separate notions. We couldn't be any prouder of this team!” The Pinetree District event is 3/22-3/24 at the Colisee in Lewiston. Admission is free. 40 teams from around New England will be competing.

On March 14, students & staff at GAHS will have an opportunity to participate in the National Walkout event that is being facilitated by high school students around the country. Our event will be held in our gymnasium, starting at 10am, and ending at 10:20 am. During the 20 minutes we will recognize the 17 victims of the recent school shooting in Florida, two students will each read a poem, and all participants will have an opportunity to write a message that will be sent to Parkland High School. Participation is optional for both students and staff. The focus of this event is to support school safety. It is not a protest and it is not politically driven. Mrs. McNaughton’s Life and Work students, and Mrs. Kanning’s 2nd grade class had the pleasure of teaming up on Tuesday, November 21. The high school students planned, organized, and executed a book read/buddy visit for their 20% class project. Fun had by all!
On Monday, December 4th, the high school music department will present its annual Winter Concert. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm in the high school gym. Admission is free. Come out and support GAHS' talented music students and enjoy a great evening of entertainment!!

GAHS Celebrates Teen Read Week. Students joined with other schools across the country to celebrate Teen Read Week from October 10 through the 13. YALSA, a division of the American Library Association, sponsors the reading event each year to promote literacy with this year’s theme Unleash Your Story”. The Library Commons held daily drawings of books generously donated by Barnes and Noble.

FRESHMEN ORIENTATION DAY-AUGUST 30, 2017-Freshmen Orientation Day 7:30 a.m.-1:55 p.m. All grade 9 students will attend orientation sessions with the guidance department, administration, the school nurse, the librarian, and have school pictures taken. Following these sessions, Freshmen will go through their schedule and attend each of their classes for 20 minutes. There will be a break for lunch at 11:45 a.m. The school day will end at 1:55 p.m.
