Close-up view of Maggie's Silver Key National Award

Out of 340,000 works of art and writing submitted to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards this year, GAHS had a Gold Key winner (sophomore Maggie Barron) and a Silver Key winner (senior Cooper Allen) both in the Northeast Region.  As if that weren’t impressive enough, Maggie then went on to win a Silver Key at the National level— which places her within the top 1% of all submissions!

Maggie and Cooper now join the alumni of Scholastic Awards like Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, and Ken Burns. . . august company indeed!

This contest was sponsored by the Library Commons in conjunction with the English Department and was open to all GAHS students.  Mr. David Lessard's Creative Writing class learned the process of submitting their writing to our nation's most respected writing contest. Teacher-Librarian Ms. Debra Butterfield helped students with the submission process.
