Senior Spotlight- Avery Backus

It is no surprise that Avery Backus, one of Gardiner's top seniors, has already received offers from five different colleges across New England.  Avery applied to post secondary institutions ranging from as far north as Orono, all the way to western Vermont, and received acceptances from all of them.  Most interested in health sciences, Avery is hoping to pursue either Dental Hygiene or Nutrition at one the following schools:

  • University of New England
  • Husson University
  • University of Maine at Orono
  • Mount Ida College
  • University of Vermont

Patrick Quinn, GAHS math teacher, says Avery's "talents, positivity, and sincerity shine through on a daily basis." Not only has Avery excelled academically, she has participated in numerous extracurriculars like math team, student council, field hockey, and National Honor Society.  Avery's school counselor, Rachael Pelton, says, "Avery has a huge heart, and I have no doubts she will continue to pursue ways to impact her collegiate community in the same way as she has while at Gardiner."

It is clear that Avery will be a wonderful addition to any college campus. The same is also true of Avery's classmates.  The Class of 2018 is off to an impressive year as 69 other seniors are alongside Avery in applying to colleges. Congratulations Avery!
