Thanks to the Maine Department of Education’s #TeachWithTech grant, the Video Production and Photography program at MSAD 11 has received a major upgrade both in equipment and in opportunity.
The grant funded the purchase of brand-new 2024 Apple iMacs, Canon EOS 90D DSLR cameras, and a variety of new lenses. These tools have opened the door for students to get hands-on experience with the kind of technology used by professionals in the fields of film, photography, and digital media.
Students are now writing, filming, and editing their own short films, building photography portfolios, and learning how to tell compelling stories through visuals. The upgraded iMacs have improved editing speed and quality, while the new cameras have allowed more students to explore shooting techniques like framing, composition, and lens selection in real-world situations.
This new setup has already made a noticeable difference in student engagement and project quality. Beyond just learning how to operate the gear, students are developing a deeper understanding of visual storytelling, media literacy, and creative problem-solving. The tools are pushing them to think critically, collaborate more effectively, and step outside their comfort zones.
The transformation of the program reflects MSAD 11’s ongoing commitment to giving students access to meaningful, real-world learning experiences. Ones that build confidence, creativity, and career-ready skills that last far beyond the classroom.
