2020 Spring Sports Season Cancelled

Dear Gardiner Tiger Athletes and Families:

It is with great sorrow that I write to inform you that on April 9, 2020, the Maine Principals Association decided to cancel the spring 2020 sports season due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.  The MPA’s decision was necessary to stay in line with the Governor’s recommendations, the CDC, and the Maine Department of Education.

I have been meeting with the spring coaching staff regularly via Google Meet to keep them informed of the changes that have taken place and forwarded any information from the MPA to them as it has been made available.  With the recommendation that was made earlier this week to continue the statewide school closure by Commissioner Makin, the MPA met today to discuss options for a spring sports season. Cancelling the season was the only option given the current situation.

We are all in uncharted territory and we all have a lot of questions.  Unfortunately, we don’t have answers to our questions. The situation that we are in currently is almost unimaginable.  I feel terribly for our spring sports athletes and especially our senior athletes. We will do everything we can to make sure our senior athletes do not go unrecognized this spring.  It is my hope that we will be able to create some sort of senior celebration where we can recognize our senior spring athletes while staying within the recommendations of the State of Maine, and the CDC.  These are discussions that I will be having in the upcoming days with our spring sports coaches, Principal Kempton, and Superintendent Hopkins.

I hope all of you are well and supporting each other in this unique time.  Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have at nstubbert@msad11.org.

Sincerely,

Nate Stubbert
